This is a super important take on the state of things in reformed evangelicalism! I commend you brother for your honesty and balance. We need way more of this kind of assessment of things. May your tribe increase!
Deeply important article and very well balanced. Not a native to the US as I’m across the pond but I’ve watched these events unfold with interest, confusion and sometimes despair. Both sides of the debate have been at fault and both sides have valid points. Thanks for highlighting them!
BRUHHHHH! EVERY TIME I kept reading they were "men of their times" infuriated me because I knew who said it which caused me to address that same person's statement in one of my videos.
I appreciate your comments and your careful observations. Truly we are struggling against flesh and blood more often than we should. And that seems to be so very weird when doing so is so much hard work with temporary results. May we with wisdom and love seek to find the right ways to do the right things.
Well done, as usual brother. However, I will add one additional thought. Concerning this:
“It’s a terrible football team that you still cheer for because they’re your team. Believe me, I know what that feels like”.
I find it interesting that on a day that I prayed for repentance for an idol that had cropped up in me over the past 50 years, you’d unknowingly add this thought about “partiality”, or rather why we slavishly attach ourselves to things that don’t often align with our profession. I get it…it’s more nuanced than that, as you pointed out. But, the tentacles of worldliness and rebellion seem so tethered to the “everydayness” of our lives, that it’s hard to see our idols…until they’re confronted.
I saw much of that yesterday. Not so much from how in I responded to the changes of our local team, but in the need of others to be seen as “right” no matter their opinion of the changes. What was even more fascinating is the lengths we all participated in to justify either for or against said changes.
Our preferences then seem to be the gateway “drug” to a kind of divisive idolatry. One who’s sole purpose is to exalt itself at the expense of another regardless of the facts…You know, like why we root for terrible teams because they’re our preferred team.
I may be reaching a bit, but I wanted to share that, regardless the topic, how much your writing has stretched me.

Hi Curt, I am eager to read the follow up to this article where you offer solutions. When do you expect to release it?
Thanks brother
